Designed to increase access to education and inspiration for the next generation of problem-solvers, the IBM-Illinois Discovery Accelerator Institute announced seed money for 10 projects.

The current program within the Institute is focusing on areas like hybrid cloud, AI, quantum computing, and sustainability. The goal of the Institute—which launched in the fall of 2021, was to strengthen the interaction between IBM and the University of Illinois. They wanted to increase the participation of researchers from IBM as well as Illinois.

The following projects were chosen to represent areas of hybrid cloud, sustainability, and materials discovery:

  • AI for Code
  • An IoT-Driven Intelligent Edge Platform for Hybrid Cloud
  • Scaling Development and Testing of Autonomy Code with Hybrid Cloud
  • AI-Enabled Automated Testing for Cloud Applications
  • Online Learning and Control for Autonomous Decision-Making in the cloud
  • Communication and scheduling for hybrid edge-cloud systems in the specialized hardware era
  • Distributed Heterogeneous Programming Environments for the Hybrid Cloud
  • An Innovative Framework to Quantify the Compound Heat-Toxicity from Ambient PM2.5 Based on Satellite Data, Measurements, and Modeling
  • Deep Climate Anomaly Modeling and Impact Analysis
  • Developing Foundation AI Models in Hybrid Cloud for Materials Science
